I’m posting an illustration a day over at www.madillustration.co.uk for an online advent calendar, which starts tomorrow. I feel a bit nervous about committing to making artwork for every day until Christmas, not only that it will be a lot to do but also because I won’t have a lot of time to work out each piece, so they will be simple. I think this will be good for me as I will be making faster decisions and producing more art. If you want to comment on any of the images, please feel free to respond to this post and I will reply.
My boyfriend’s folks brought him back for me from California. They said, “we saw it and thought of you”. He’s wonderful but really strange – coincidence?

I tried a lot of things out in this painting after being inspired by the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Watford. (If you haven’t been – go! It’s fantastic!)
I am new to painting scenery and decided it was time to stop just leaving my characters in empty space, so used this piece to experiment. I used a mixture of brushes and layer effects, both of which I don’t normally use. Finally, the colouring and lighting was very bold for me.
I am pleased that I have stepped out of my comfort zone in completing the Hogwarts’ Owlery for Illustration Friday’s “Tall” project, but did find it quite frustrating. There is a reason the fog is there!
Thanks for looking!

Quick one for this week’s Illustration Friday. Hope it makes sense!
Screen grab from Illustrator’s Lounge
Illustrator’s Lounge is a source for “daily illustration inspiration” from all kinds of artists. Some of the site’s features include “Manga Mondays” and “Fashion Fridays”, while the other daily posts can feature anything from geometric illustration to oil paintings.
This is a new addition to my blog roll and I’m already hooked – I’ve found lots of new artists whose talent is absolutely awe-inspiring, and I can’t wait to discover more.
This site should be approached with care; it can be hard to return from Wonderland.
Diamond Jubilee for Bubble Creative Facebook page
Today I’m going to share the creative process behind the illustration of the Diamond Jubilee.

You may remember this character from my last post exploring colour schemes; I went with the blonde, but muddied the colours up a bit to give her more of an edge. The line work took ages but I’m really pleased with it!
I wanted to get this finished for Illustration Friday, hence the lack of shading and background – these will follow at a later point. This character isn’t going anywhere until someone’s told her story.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts!
